‘Various industries are in dire need for innovative, pragmatic ideas coming from dedicated and committed leadership to turn things around for the sake of the sustainability of the industries.’ – Nomvula Rakolote
Apart from being a career woman and mother, Nomvula Rakolote is also a dynamic and resilient individual. Nomvula has worked in both the public and private sector in leadership positions. This has contributed to her proven track record in stakeholder engagement, strategy formulation and implementation. In addition, she has forged and enhanced strategic and sustainable partnerships for various initiatives, which were successfully implemented for the benefit the construction industry and the profession as a whole.
She cherishes youth development and gender equality as critical areas to address in the construction industry, which is still lagging in these transformation areas, and she is poised to drive initiatives that will address these topics. The construction industry witnessed first-hand the bold steps taken under her leadership to transform the landscape of professionals who register within the project and construction management disciplines. She was appointed as an Associate Professor of the Built Environment at the Central University of Technology, Bloemfontein, thus recognising the fact that she is an individual regarded as an authority in the field.
The strides she has taken in her life are the consequence of vision and planning. Her flexibility is displayed by her ability to interact with individuals from a plethora of industries and from various strata of society. She has a gift of motivating not only herself, but her children and co-workers, which reflects her realistic outlook and forward-thinking attitude. She has proven to be an exemplary role model who is never satisfied with mediocrity. She is constantly ready to grasp and tackle new challenges, offering new and relevant solutions. She continues to strive to the best – and the best version of herself.
Because she is a firm believer in continually setting new targets and goals and does not want to live on past achievements and accomplishments, Nomvula moves gracefully from one season to next. She is unflinching in the face of storms and trials. She has learnt to look beyond excuses and defences and is open to change. She believes this is essential in transforming her immediate environment and those of the people with whom she works.

Best advice I can give to anyone:
‘Our mistakes don’t limit us; only our fears do when we go through this unpredictable journey called life.’
Therefore, embrace each day, as every day we get a chance to do and to be who we were destined to become.
